The Oak Tree

Besty and I

Keith Mundangepfupfu GOA Poetry (1)

Outside my window reminds me of home, Triangle
Reminds me of Mopane trees, Baobab and Acacia
Reminds me of sugar cane burning, cane cutters and black snow
Reminds me of the Saturdays spent watching Giraffes, Impalas and Hyenas at the game park

But being here, I am not away
Mariama reminds me that friends are
home
Distance and space are voids
Friends fill
When I am crying watching the Fault In Our Stars
On a Saturday afternoon with you
I am home

I am eating sugar cane and chasing after Hilos
Sun setting, sugar cane burning
When I am sitting in the quad and
Talking about my insecurities with you
Laughing at our EL teacher who acts half his age
When I am sitting in the quad and
Talking about life beyond these red bricks and green roof
I am not away
I am home.
